Buffalo Central Terminal
On Tuesday, we hopped in the car with the destination of Buffalo's abandoned train terminal. I see this magnificent building in the distance on my way to work every day, and with it's 17 story, art deco style architecture , it wasn't so difficult to locate without the help of our GPS. The building was in it's heyday from the late 1920's through the 1970's. In 1979, the owner of the building defaulted on his taxes, thus forcing a foreclosure sale on the terminal. The only bidder of the building certainly didn't preserve it's beauty, but instead sold many of the artifacts and generally allowed it to decay. This sent preservationists in an uproar, which the owner of the building responded with a "If you think you can do a better job, I'll sell it to you for a dollar." This worked out beautifully, because it is now in the hands of the Central Terminal Restoration Corporation, who purchased a few of the artifacts back, and hosts over 20 fundraising events a year in the terminal.
Exploring this building, it was nearly impossible not to feel connected to the glamorous clichés of traveling to New York City in the 1920's, and a small part of me hoped that when no one was around, the building magically transformed into it's former self, and was once again able to experience the hustle and bustle of the city. If only every abandoned building got to experience an end-of-the-Titanic-movie-moment, ha!

absolutely beautiful, I've always admired visions of fall, but have never actually experienced it in real life...
Wow, these are great pictures and what a great building. Is the building still in use? I probably should have read your entire blog, but I couldn't wait to see the pics, so I scrolled down too quickly. Keep them coming :)
